Chopper update !

Where to begin...all I can say is that Mia-Faith is one amazing gal. We went to the dentist office today to see if we could break up the dental work into stages and fix some of Mia's teeth.

Dr Jim said that he would try and coach Mia but may have to papoose her if she didn't cooperate. I told him that I didn't think she would but I was OK with the papoose if needed to keep her safe.

Well as Mia was walking away from me she started crying.....and then she cried for the next 60 minutes !!

The entire office could hear her....the staff kept coming and telling me that Mia was OK and that she couldn't feel anything. Her entire mouth was numb but she hated the papoose. I sat there having flashbacks to my own dental visits as a kid....I felt awful... the hygienist came in and at one point I told her to tell Dr. Jim to get as much done as possible because Mia will never want to come to the dentist again.

Then all of the sudden the wailing stopped. The hygienist told me I could come and see Mia. As I came around the corner Mia was sitting on the chair getting her nails painted by the Dentist !

Mia looked at me-her cute little face puffy from crying, swollen from the work and said, "Hi Mom-tee-tee" translated...."Hi Mom, pretty"...she was so happy! It was like nothing happened. Mia started showing everyone her nails, showed me her "tee-tee" teeth, was waiving good bye .....

I can not tell you how relieved I was. The best of all Dr Jim was able to fix EVERYTHING !

Mia's 8 cavities are all filled, she is sporting a new silver cap on her cracked tooth, had x-rays, cleaning and an intense fluoride treatment.

One interesting thing to note -Dr Jim said that Mia-Faith's teeth looked like that of a bulimic teenager. He said that there is very distinct look to the teeth. He wonders in Mia's case if it was poor nutrition and if she had serious gastric reflux as an infant. We will never know.....

She was such a trooper !!

It's amazing what a good manicure can do for a girl's spirit!! I'm so glad she recovered quickly and that she is on the road to a healthier mouth. Sweet little girl -- she's a doll!

Dr Jim rocks! And Mia REALLY rocks! Glad it's over and Mia is none the worse ..... just had some dental work done as well, including an extraction - if I was Al Gore, I could make a movie and call it "An Inconvenient Tooth". - and the Waala family gave one collective groan .....

Bless her little heart and poor mama! I know that is so difficult to go through with your child. Sounds like you have a great dentist!
I totally understand, because several of our kiddos have teeth that are in terrible condition. Our dentist said it was most likely due to the poor prenatal care... birth mother just wasn't getting enough good nutrition for healthy teeth to develop. The good news, for at least one of our girls, is that the dentist said her adult teeth are much healthier and stronger. Yea!

Poor Baby!! Sounds like Dr. Jim is great with kids though. And what a relief that you are done with dentist's visits...for now, anyways.

Hugs!
