Gearing up for Shriners...

We have hit the road. We are on the way to Shriner's Hospital in Pennsylvania. Grandma is staying at the house. Thank You !! Today we crossed 5 states !! We are really excited for this trip for a number of reasons: we hope to learn more about Juvenile Scoliosis, JS treatment options and any options we may have for Keaton. We also have the opportunity to swing by and meet Valerie, Ron and Jensen. I have followed both of their blogs for so long - way before they brought Jensen home.
We are trying to make this a positive experience. The other night Keaton asked Dave whose spine he would be given if he had surgery.... it was such an innocent and sad comment. Keaton is really scared. Of course we explained to him that he gets to keep his spine -we just have to figure out when and how we can help straighten it out. We also want the other kids to see Shriners so if some day Keaton has surgery they will know where he is at....

I am praying for you as well... I know this is a scary time, full of decisions, but the Dr.s and staff at Shriners are wonderful and they will help you make the best decision for your son. Please keep us posted on how it is going.

Hugs to you all!

I don't remember how I got to your blog, but I had to comment! We have 3 bio kids and 1 daughter that we brought home from Ethiopia 9/07. Our 2nd oldest (Katie) has congenital scoliosis and had spine surgery in 9/06. It looks like you guys are experts at childhood medical procedures, but if you ever need any info on the spine surgery, let me know. We went to Children's in Boston. I have to say, the worst part was DEFINITELY the anticipation (and the 1st 2 nights in NICU). SHe left after 5 nights without an ounce of pain meds. She wore the hard plastic brace for 3 months or so and the hardest part of recovery was keeping her from going on the swings and riding her bike!! Hope all is well with all of your kiddos!
